What is FH Companion?

FH Companion is FH Australia’s new web-based tracker — it’s not an app — and works seamlessly across mobile, tablet and computer. Co-designed with the FH and Lp(a) patient community, it’s built around three things that currently take real effort: tracking results over time instead of losing them across different providers and paper reports; staying on top of appointments and referrals instead of relying on memory or scattered reminders; and building a genuine understanding of the condition through plain-language education.

The goal is simple: lighten the administrative and educational burden of FH, so patients can spend less energy managing their condition and more energy living with it. And it is completely free!

Users can set an LDL goal, track progress over time, and see their LDL trends visualised clearly. Medication tracking needs minimal data entry — the tool assumes medications stay unchanged until the user says otherwise — and simple reminders can be set for blood tests or clinician appointments, with email prompts sent two weeks out and again the day before.

Families can track results for everyone in one place, making it easy to see trends over time and keep everyone’s information together.

FH Companion also gives users access to short, easy-to-digest education on the basics of FH and Lp(a), medications, and heart-healthy lifestyle choices — helping them better understand their condition and become active participants in their own healthcare.

Built and operated in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, FH Companion governs how sensitive health data is collected, stored and disclosed, and how users can access, correct or delete their own information. No payment card data is ever stored or processed.

Getting started is straightforward — built-in guidance and a step-by-step tutorial walk new users through setting up their profile and logging their first results, so there’s nothing to figure out alone. We’d encourage everyone in the FH and Lp(a) community to give it a go.
