https://insightplus.mja.com.au/2025/9/do-some-children-need-statins/ - Genetic testing for FH is covered by Medicare meaning that those with Medicare cards are able to get free testing when ordered by their doctor. Genetic testing is especially helpful for ‘cascade testing’ in family members. Cascade testing is when family members (parents, children, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins) of someone with a genetic diagnosis of FH test for the same gene variant. Cascade testing can help relatives find out their heart disease risk early, before it’s too late to prevent damage. We hope that sharing articles like this can help increase awareness of FH and the GP’s key role in caring for families with FH.
